1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
In normal filming projects done by bigger, wealthier companies they have a larger budget with much more equipment to use while shooting. All we had was a phone, tripod, and a free editing app. We managed to challenge the notion that shooting high quality work needs to be expensive and done with extravagant tools. This represents the social issue that you need to spend a lot of money to produce a quality result. Through our music video, we challenged conventions by only using the items we had at home. Rather than going out and purchasing props, cameras, etc. The only purchases we made were to enter the fair, eat, and play games. As a team we shot our video and edited with the little resources we were supplied with.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our video engages audiences because the song we used is popular. At one time in 2020 it was considered one of the most trending songs on the app TikTok; which has over 1 million users alone. It was also able to reach Platinum certification in 4 countries. This incentivizes viewers to watch our video. Additionally, the storyline is relatable. The story carried throughout the video was about a couple on their first date; awkwardly getting to know each other. This experience is universal because no matter where you are, this is a norm for most of the population.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
In this project my role changed. In the commercial we had done before I could not make it to shooting. So, I took up most of the editing. I was behind the scenes cutting and adding elements to the commercial to make it a quality work. However, in this music video I had to act. I have not acted in a long time, almost 3 years. So, I had to learn what mood and emotions I needed to show. It is completely different to be behind or in front of the camera. I also helped direct the video. This was interesting because I exercised authority over what I wanted in the video.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I utilized a wide variety of software, hardware, and online resources in my project. Overall, throughout this process I was able to see how technology enhanced the product of our music video. Which furthered our quality of the video more than I thought it would.
I used the following Hardware equipment:
- Tripod
- IPhone
- 256 GB Card
- Computer
- Headphones
- Ipad
For software I used the following:
- Capcut: Main editing
- Photos: Coloring
- YouTube: Music
- Garageband: Mixing the music
I used the following websites for research purposes:
- YouTube
- Online Articles
- Spotify
- SoundCloud
- Gmail
