Genre Research: Mean Girls

  What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie? The characteristics of this movie that we love are the sense of a different setting. Going to school for the first time is tough at first but eventually, you find your place and figure it out. This goes right with our pitch as being alone with your best friend at first seems scary but everything falls in place and works out as there is no one you would rather be stuck with. It is a shock at first and you feel like the world is ending but its as only as good as YOU make it to be.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? The element I liked was the life-changing experience. High school is a wild ride and shows you how life isn't fair and it doesn't always go the way you would like it to. But it teaches you maturity through it all and that's the goal of our final task as in the end you are stripped of innocence and in the deep end of life. As well the aspect of finding your own way. High school is an opportunity to find yourself and people like you which mean girls demonstrate perfectly. Cady heron bounces from group to group at first but eventually finds herself in school. Beyond that its her first time attending real school and she goes through the challenges of manipulation. But she overcomes it and even though she acted childish at first by the end finds herself and is mature.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? The element that did not appeal to me was the drama. To mature drama doesn't always have to ensue but in this case, it did. Our pitch is not going to include the drama element as to me it doesn't show how high school actually is only the bad parts. And embarrassment is not a good way to mature in life, different experiences and finding your own way is. The movie is full of betrayal and backstabbing and is full of childish actions and rumors. They all want to be the center of attention and cannot ever act their age. regardless of what's going on there is no need to stoop down to that level and get revenge.

  1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? In total there were 21 different title cards in the title sequence. The first 3 were the production companies involved, Fox, Paramount and MTV. The next few were all of the main actors in the movie. Following them was the most important production crew members including the production composer, editor, and designer. Lastly, the executive producer ended with the directors' title card. 2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The images prioritized are common schoolday items like a lunch meal and a book from the library paper for taking notes in class. And even a school lunch is used to introduce people and the staff. It also covers a typical meal for some with breakfast, a snack, and a lunch meal all being included in the opening credits.
